Dusty's Transmissions, located in Central Point, Oregon (part of Southern Oregon, or simply the Rogue Valley for local residents), is owned by Dave "Dusty" Duste. Prior to opening his Central Point shop, Dusty had already gained considerable experience in the automotive repair field. While working as a line mechanic for Phillips Pontiac and Lithia Dodge in Medford during the 70s, he specialized in transmission work.
"During that time, cars were becoming more complex," he recalls. "It started becoming clear to me that transmission repair work required a specialist; if I had my own Rogue Valley shop, I knew I could concentrate solely on transmissions."
In 1979, Dusty opened his own transmission repair shop in Southern Oregon (Rogue Valley), and it has remained in the same location ever since (Central Point). It's a place where Dusty can fulfill his mission -"to do one thing and do it right."
In order to provide quality work his customers expect, Dusty has installed the latest electronic equipment for quick and accurate problem diagnosis. To keep current on the newest transmissions, Dusty and his crew, which includes his son Matt, and r & r technician George Morehead, also attend ongoing training and seminars.
Dusty's Transmissions makes every effort to complete your job as quickly as possible. In addition to having five lifts and seven stalls, the Central Point shop carries most parts in stock. "This is just one way in which we try to make your experience here a positive one," says Dusty. "And if you have to wait while we complete your job, we have a clean, comfortable customer lounge."
Dusty notes that with the high cost of buying a new car, it makes sense to take good care of the one you have. "With proper transmission maintenance, most cars will run 200,000 - 300,000 miles, so they're worth repairing. We recommend regular yearly servicing. At that time we'll flush the transmission and change the transmission fluid and filters. This is by far the most economical approach, rather than waiting till major transmission repairs are necessary."
